When it comes time to move, whether it’s across the street or across town, the list of things to do can seem endless. There are phone calls that need to be made, schedules that need to be adjusted, and items that need to be packed. The more people you can get to help you, the better, and that is what makes Seattle moving companies so special. Seattle moving companies are some of the absolute best when it comes to your needing to hire movers in Seattle.

Seattle Moving Companies

So what is so special about movers in Seattle, WA? First of all, Seattle is home to some of the most trustworthy and credible people in our nation. Although the Seattle area offers all the popular city life activities, the atmosphere is one of a small town where everyone smiles at you when you walk down the street. Friendliness and hospitality are two qualities you will find in Seattle, which are character traits that transcend into any business – especially Seattle moving companies.

Top 5 Packing Tips

When it comes time to move, there are quite a few tips and tricks you can use to make your move as simple and trouble-free as possible.

1.      Make two separate areas that will serve as the central areas for packing your boxes. The first room will include all the materials you will need – boxes of various sizes, scissors, packing tape, paper or bubble wrap, and a marker. The second area will be where you are going to place the boxes once they are packed.

2.      As you pack and put the boxes into the second area, place them in groups according to the room they will be going into once you move into your new place.

3.      Start packing items that you use the least at least a month before the big move. If you spread the packing out over a period of at least a few weeks time, you will save yourself a lot of stress.

4.      Make sure you clearly mark each and every box. Write the name of the room it will be going into, a general idea of what is in the box, and whether the items are fragile or breakable.

5.      Taking a quick photo of all the items before putting them into the box is a good idea. This way in case a box somehow gets lost, you can easily see all the items that were in it, which can be used for insurance purposes.

Remember, Seattle local movers are the very best at what they do. You will receive the very best service from super friendly movers who will impress you with their kindness and helpfulness when it comes time to finding movers in Seattle, WA.

That is why it is important to choose a reliable Seattle moving company.

In this article, we’ll outline some tips that will help you in relocating to Seattle. These guidelines are also available to people who are moving from Seattle to another area. Read on below:

●       Make the right preparations – before you even think of moving to Seattle, Washington, you must already adopt a mindset that moving is hard work. Relocating is stressful no matter how you look at it. It is important to plan everything for the move to be successful.

●       Sell the stuff you don’t need – for many people, Seattle moving means that it’s time to get rid of all the unnecessary items they have accumulated through the years. Sure, there will inevitably be sentimental items that are hard to get rid of. By and large though, moving in Seattle is a time to start anew. You can sell the things you don’t need and make money in the process.

●       Find a reputable moving company in Seattle early – the last thing you want is to be hassled when it’s time to move. Finding a good moving company early on ensures that you can focus on the packing and saying your goodbyes instead of worrying about the agency’s ability to deliver.

Moving to a new home is stressful enough but when you need to move a heavy piece of musical instrument, like a piano, things can get a lot more complicated. Unlike other items like the sofa, tables, and even the bed, the piano cannot be dismantled. That means that you need to take advantage of pro piano movers in Seattle to get the job done right. There are many Seattle movers that seemingly offer the same services. The key is to look for a firm that has extensive experience in moving pianos and other delicate equipment.

Here are some of the things you need to look for in a Seattle piano mover:

●       Reputation of the professional piano movers in Seattle – if a company has a good reputation, it is likely that they provide excellent service to clients. Consider their offer and compare it against other firms with similar packages. If a particular company is recommended by friends or family, it is best to choose that firm as well.

●       Insurance cover – don’t take this for granted because the insurance will pay for the damage to the piano in case it is scratched. If the piano is stolen, the insurance cover will also ensure that you get paid for it. Remember that the piano movers in Seattle must partner with a reliable insurance company because there are countless cases where clients struggle to receive pay-outs for the damage that is done.

●       Value-added services – do the movers offer additional services such as loading and unloading? The last thing you want is to have movers who will simply dump your items at the front door when your apartment is upstairs. A number of piano movers in Seattle WA offers this for free but there are others that charge a fee for this service.

The piano is cherished by many owners. Depending on the history, brand, and make of the piano, the cost of this musical equipment can range anywhere from a few thousand to half a million dollars. It is critical to find piano movers in Seattle that can guarantee the top condition of the items during the move.

Ideally, the Seattle piano movers should understand the temperature and condition that the piano must be placed in to ensure that its tune won’t change. Shelling out a few hundred dollars extra to hire Seattle piano movers that can guarantee the safety of your items is worth it. Just choose wisely.

If you thought packing your stuff with the help of a Seattle moving company was difficult, wait until it’s time to unpack. Then your real nightmares start. Some people prefer packing, while other prefer unpacking-if you ask us, we think the former is easier by a mile.

Unpacking can be difficult because people who move their households often fail to plan for this aspect of the moving process. We like to fuss over details when packing and moving, but what happens when we finally get to our destination? When you’re tired from the trip and all your packing, it can be very easy to get lost in a sea of boxes and belongings that need to be sorted.

Here are some tips to make unpacking easier:

1. Keep an Inventory

An inventory is crucial to keeping things organized. If you already have one, make sure you make multiple copies of it, giving one to your Seattle movers, and keeping a few to yourself for reference and safekeeping purposes.

2. Take out the Essentials First

We strongly recommend packing essential items in a single box before moving. When unloading the truck, your essentials box should be the first to come out, meaning it should be the last box to be loaded in before the trip. Your essentials box will contain items that will keep you going while you temporarily set up your home.

3. Kitchen Items First

You’ll need to eat when moving into a new home, so be sure to unpack your kitchen items first. Fill the cupboards of your new abode with the pots and pans. Kitchen appliances such as your coffee pot, toaster and microwave should then be installed next, as they make the moving process easier-you need to eat, you know.

4. The Bedroom Next

After the problem of food, you will then need a place to crash, so unpack your bedroom items. Once you have the beds ready, unpack the linens, pillows, blankets and comforters for each room. Linens can be stored in see-through bags for easier unpacking and identification.

5. Time for the Bathroom

When unpacking your bathroom items, make sure to first separate the most important items, such as medication and toiletries. You can then go over items such as towels, shower curtains, cleaning items and more.

We know that organizing the unpacking process into a neat list above makes thing easier said than done, so it definitely pays to have help. Aside from getting the services of a Seattle moving company, make sure you have friends and family to help you. For instance, each member of the family can unpack for their own bedrooms, while you take care of the kitchen and living room.

If moving by yourself can be stressful, imagine moving a whole family! It is normal for children to feel it the most, because it is an intimidating, puzzling, and uncertain situation.

However, not everything is bad… there are many things you can do to make a family move fun and exciting.

Here, one of the best Seattle moving companies gives you some moving advice, 10 ideas that will amuse your kids and take their minds off their worries:

1. Favorite movie night

Make your first night at your new home a favorite movie night! Order some pizza and make fresh lemonade, and your kids will feel right at home. Forget about the work that is still ahead and enjoy your family.

2. Camp indoors

This is a fun way to turn something negative into a positive experience. Too tired to think about unpacking the sheets and making the beds? No problem! Camp in your living room; there’s no better adventure for your kids, and sleeping together will make them feel safe.

3. Choose new favorites

Every family has a favorite restaurant, park, video store, etc. Well, take your family on an adventure to look for their new favorite places in town. You may be positively surprised and find better places at your new neighborhood.

4. Keep a glass-half-full attitude

If your kids see you happy and excited about moving, they will be happy too. Tell them that the park has the coolest playground, that the neighbors are very nice, and that their dog is going to love the backyard! Your mind-set has great power over your kids’ feelings.

5. Hold on to routines

Make your kids feel safe by going back to their normal routines as soon as the move is over: mealtimes, bedtimes, playtimes, etc.

6. Personalize project

Let your kids ‘own’ their new space by allowing them to choose their room’s color and style.

7. Mission: Exploring

There are hundreds of interesting things to discover around a new neighborhood, and the best way to find them is… walking! Take an exploration walk with your family; this will also help your children understand where they are and where the house is in case they have to get home by themselves.

8. Traveling fun

The best part of long road trips is planning the games, DVDs, and snacks you will need along the way to entertain your kids. Do not forget pillows and blankets for long naps.

9. Clear communication

Be open about the move so that your kids feel free to talk about their fears and irritations. Sit with each of your children individually, because all of them will have different opinions and questions.

10. Take-it-as-it-comes philosophy

Every move has its ups and downs, so it will become a better experience if you accept the problems that may arise in a natural way, knowing that you can fix them. This is a great lesson your kids will remember the rest of their lives!

Many of us have never used a storage unit and we may think these are meant for people who work with merchandise; however, it is very normal today for people to rent storage units when they are in between homes.

If you are faced with any of these situations you may want to consider renting a storage unit:

1. Temporary move

This is very practical moving advice! Let’s say you have to transfer temporarily¾2 years¾for a job… in such a case you probably don’t want to move everything you own with you since this is not a permanent situation, then… a storage unit is the best solution. You are able to move only with what you need/want.

2. Home selling

It may happen that you are selling your current home. In this situation, you know that when showing your home to potential buyers the first impression is crucial, and too much clutter will make people run the other way!

Your home must feel spacious, and this is only achieved with a clean and uncluttered space. Anything that can jeopardize the sale must go… or be stored somewhere else.

3. College years

Many parents with kids in college know that once they finish studying they may come back home for a few years while they find a job and make some money to move out.

In this case, it is a good idea not to sell the kids’ furniture, but store it while they’re away so that the empty nesters can use the space in other ways for a while.

4. Inheritance

Parents may have some furniture they no longer need but want to pass to their children once they move out.

When renting a storage facility, make sure you check the contract termination policy, just in case you need to get your stuff out before the original intended date.

Also, check the locks and ensure the place has good security, because your things will be there for a long period of time without you keeping an eye on them. You should make a list of what you’re storing and review it with the person in charge of the facility.

Keep in hand the facility’s phone number and operation hours, and make sure they have your number too, in case of emergency.

If a Seattle moving company is dropping off your boxes, talk to your contact at the facility ahead of time and let him/her know who’s coming, and ask the movers to look for this person when they arrive to the place to comply with safety procedures.

Storage units are a great short-term solution for people with busy and very active lives, but it is never a bad idea to think about getting rid of some stuff through garage sales, donations, online auctions, or the garbage, if you have a lot of things that can be considered clutter.

With many good deals to be had in the real estate market, many first time buyers see this as the perfect opportunity to buy an older, run down property and turn it into their dream home.  Others see the opportunity for making a profit from doing great things to that old fixer upper and reselling it.

If you’ve recently sold your home in the Seattle area and have had all your belongings moved safe and sound by your local movers in Seattle, then you’re ready for the next step of your moving and renovating adventure.  Here are some dos and don’ts of moving into a fixer upper without getting overwhelmed.

Do try and move boxes into an area of the home where you will not be renovating right away.  In fact, you may want to consider asking your Seattle moving company if they offer temporary storage of furniture that you can retrieve when the room is ready for it.  It’s very difficult to renovate around furniture and boxes of belongings.

Do draw up a plan of action and work in that order. For example you don’t want to spend time and energy fixing up old drywall only to have to tear it out to fix faulty wiring.   Be sure to put everything you want to do down on a list so you can plan your work in order.

Don’t forget to budget your renovations.  No doubt you have a dollar figure in mind that you want to spend.  It’s easy to get carried away and over spend on one area leaving you without funds to continue the whole job.  It’s a good idea to start  with a list of everything you want to do ideally, and then as you put the actual cost to jobs, you will eliminate or alter the jobs according to what budgets will allow. For example, you may want new tiles in the bathroom, but when you look at the budget, you may opt instead for a really good cleaning and polishing so you can invest in new fixtures instead.

Do invest in modern energy efficient products wherever possible. Energy efficient windows and doors, heating and cooling systems and air cleaners and purifiers are very highly valued in today’s real estate market.

Don’t be afraid to call on the services of a professional if you feel overwhelmed.  A few dollars spent getting help from a person with the skills to do the job right can often save you a lot of money and headaches in the long run.   In some cases there is still plenty that you can finish yourself once a professional has provided some basic advice and steps for you to follow.

Do take your time.  It may seem like a project that never ends once you start renovating.  Try to stay focused on the task at hand rather than always looking ahead to the day it will all be finished. Take joy from each accomplishment knowing it is a step towards your final dream home.

Making the decision to move is only the very first of a long list of decisions waiting for you.  Once your house is sold and you know when and where you are moving, you will need to make plans for the best move for you.  A professional mover in Seattle is as near as your keyboard or telephone, and consulting with them will help you decide just which of the many services they offer are the ones that you can make use of.  To help you get started here is a brief rundown of moving services that are generally offered.

Free Estimates
All moving companies of reputable status will offer free moving estimates.  They will most likely send a consultant to your home to assess your belongings in order to give you an accurate estimate.  Be wary of companies that don’t visit you to do an estimate.  If they just give you a quote over the phone or online, the actual numbers could change and be a lot higher than originally expected.  Using an online quote as a starting point can be helpful but bear in mind that it will be an estimate.  Be sure to get a final quote in writing before committing to a moving service.

Packing and Unpacking
Depending on how much time you have and how busy your lifestyle is, you will need to decide if you will pack and or unpack yourself or have the movers do it for you.  For many folks, packing up their things to move is a very personal thing and not something they want left to strangers.  Likewise with unpacking, they want the adventure and excitement of unpacking all their cherished belongings and carefully choosing where to put them in their new home.  For others, however, the perfect moving scenario is to sell the house, go away on a little trip and come back to a new home all unpacked and ready to live in.  For them, the more the moving company can do the better.  Movers will most often offer as little or as much of a service as you wish.

Boxes and Packing Supplies
If you are doing your own packing, make certain your moving company can supply you with boxes, bubble wrap, packing tape and any other materials you may need.  These items can be purchased separately so you need only buy what you actually need.  Movers can also offer some good packing tips if you ask them, such as the best boxes for particular items and how to pack fragile items.

Oversize Furniture/Specialty Items
Even if you are doing all the packing yourself, you may still need to know if your moving service will move your piano or large pieces.

Storage
If you are moving into a home with big renovation plans, you may want to ask your movers if they offer temporary storage of your items until you are finished with the renovations.  Most Seattle moving companies will offer this for a fairly reasonable extra charge.

Right after you move, it is important to take the time to make a thorough inventory of your belongings and make sure everything arrived in good condition and that nothing has been lost.

Most probably, movers will ask you to check your valuables as they bring them to your new home.  They will provide an inventory sheet with corresponding numbers and descriptions for the task.  Even though it may be difficult to concentrate with all the work being done around you during the move and with movers bringing several loads together, try to focus and organize the inventory check so that you don’t miss any items.  You could ask a friend to help you double-check every valuable, or divide the duties of checking the list and looking over the items.

Check furniture and appliances very carefully for missing feet, broken knobs, and scratches, and plug in appliances to ensure they are working correctly.   If there is something missing, mark it and tell the movers immediately.  If you see damage, make a note on the inventory list.  Do not sign the sheet until you are certain that everything has been accounted for.  It will greatly simplify things if you locate boxes or discuss damages while the movers are still there.

While you unpack, make notes about what you think is missing or damaged.  You’ve already checked for missing boxes, but not for missing things inside them.  Everyone who is unpacking should have an inventory list for the box they are working on.

Everything should be checked within the next few days after the move; otherwise, damages or losses may not be covered by the movers’ insurance.

As soon as you’re done unpacking and if you have found missing or damaged items, call the movers and ask them to track the items; maybe something was forgotten in the truck and is easy to recover.  If something is not found, call the insurance company to file a claim.  You will have to give detailed information about the item that is missing or has been damaged, and the inventory list you made prior to moving will be crucial.

Even though something could go wrong, normally everything works smoothly if you have taken the precaution of researching locally and hiring quality Movers in Seattle WA to help you handle the move.  Investing a little more could save you lots of headaches and bad experiences later.

A lot of people dread moves, but this is because they don’t take it seriously and fail to plan ahead.  When you know exactly what to expect, how to get organized, and even what could go wrong, nothing can get you off balance, and you will be ready to deal with whatever happens in an effective way.

After a move, most people are left with dozens or even hundreds of boxes they don’t know how to dispose of.  Obviously, you are anxious to get rid of all that stuff that is only cluttering your beautiful new home, however, you should take the time to do it right and dispose of them in a useful and eco-friendly way instead of just throwing them in the garbage.

Here we give you some tips as to how to give moving boxes a good use after you don’t need them anymore:

1.    Contact a box broker
In many cities, there are companies that specialize in buying and selling used moving boxes; find one near you and sell them all of yours.

2.    List your boxes on BoxCycle
This is a service within the US.  You access the website, list your boxes for sale, and the company will sell them for you.  The service has great reviews, a clear sign of how well it works.

3.    Post on Craigslist
This is another great place to list the boxes you want to get rid of, sell, exchange, or just give away, and it is free.

4.    Use some of them as compost containers
This is a good option if you have an herb garden or beautiful yard at home and you are into organic gardening.  You just have to ensure the boxes are protected from animals that could destroy them.

5.    Contact a charity
Normally, libraries, community groups, and shelters need lots of boxes to move books, clothes, shoes, appliances, and food, among other things.  You can find a lot of places to help with just a few phone calls.

6.    Find local recycling programs
Almost every city has a place for recycling big quantities of cardboard material.  In some cases you will have to take the boxes to the recycling center yourself, but that is not a big inconvenience.  Make sure you find out details like how many boxes they will take, sizes, and if you have to flatten them before delivery.

Seattle moving companies can help you find the different recycling, reusing, and disposing options in the area; maybe they will even offer to take your boxes to help you dispose of them.  The important thing to remember is that when moving, cleaning up and disposing of materials in the right way is as important as packing, unpacking, and getting your home organized.
