Set Up Two Areas

• Reserve one room for the packing process. A table will do just fine as close to the door as possible.
• Set the other room aside to store the full boxes that are ready to load on the truck. Choose a low traffic room.

Donate or throw away items you know you're going to replace in the new house. Take your empty boxes to the packing area as well as the other packing materials.

You will need:

• Packing tape
• A marker
• Paper or bubble wrap
• Optional: a digital camera
• Lots of boxes

The ideal boxes are uniform in size and resistance.

Strategy:

Now, make a plan. Our experience as Tacoma and Seattle local movers has taught us the following simple strategy. First of all, pack one room completely and then move on to the next.

Where to begin in the first room? Follow these general rules:

• Use the clockwise strategy to ensure you pack everything.
• Start with items that you never use or to reduce anxiety and confusion of missing important items.
• Take pictures of the things you place in the boxes.
• Always bend your knees. Avoid curving your spine when lifting heavy boxes.
• Store packed boxes in groups, according to the room they belong in the new house.
• Clearly mark items which stay in the old house, don?t get loaded on the truck.
• Remember: Anything that can be stored in a box belongs to a box.

Books

A US Census Bureau survey showed our city to be the most literate in the country. As Seattle local movers we have lifted thousands upon thousands of books.

Our advice, for the sake of your back (and ours):

• Put the books in small, sturdy boxes.
• Pack books according to the desired room, so cookbooks end up in the kitchen.
• Match book sizes to make them pack most efficiently.

Clothes

Try packing your clothes in drawers or suitcases to save space and boxes.

Appliances

• Back up your digital files.
• Disconnect devices like computers, printers, TV sets, dishwasher, and refrigerator. Seattle local movers cant unplug your devices.
• Tape cords to the back of their respective devices.

Shoes

• Place shoes in drawers, but not all in the same place.
• You'll find your shoes easily if you put them inside plastic bags at the bottom of the box or drawer. Fill the rest of the box with lighter items, such as blankets or shirts.

Fragile Items

• Always set your fragile objects in separate boxes lined with bubble wrap or paper. Towels, blankets and pillows make perfect cushions.
• Clearly mark the boxes as FRAGILE in at least two sides.
• DO NOT place plates flat in the bottom of a box. Plates packed flat are less safe than a group of four or five plates placed on their sides with enough bubble wrap in between.

Boxes

We use sturdy uniform boxes. However, if you use mixed boxes, please take the time to do the following.

• Use packing tape on the top and bottom of all boxes.
• Label the boxes on at least two sides.
• Put a mark to identify which room it belongs to in the new home or office.
• Fill empty spaces with additional paper.

DO NOT?

• Use frail boxes.
• Half-fill the box. When we stack other boxes on top of each another, the pile might crush.
• Fill a box with nothing more than heavy items. This is a major complaint among laborers from all moving companies in Seattle (local movers, especially).
• Leave empty spaces in a box. Items might shift while on the road.
• Overload a box past its brim.
• Label boxes with the name of valuable items; you're inviting thefts.

The Day of the Big Move: Your Seattle Local Movers Arrive

Make sure you are finished with the packing process before the van arrives. Ideally, you should have almost everything ready the previous night.
