What a Typical Move Costs

Every home is different, but after 20,000+ moves we can tell you what to expect. A packed-and-ready studio or one-bedroom apartment usually takes a two-man crew 2–4 hours. A two-bedroom typically runs 3–5 hours with three movers. A full house is usually a day's work for a crew of three or four men. Your rate covers the moving truck, fuel, and equipment, and your Seattle moving estimate is free — we ask the right questions (stairs, elevator, parking, how much is packed) and give you an honest window, not a lowball number that doubles on move day.

Comparing Moving Companies in Seattle?

Here's what to watch for. Washington regulations require movers to charge travel time — some companies bury that until the invoice. Others let a slow crew run up the clock. We do neither: travel time is explained before you book, our crews are trained to hustle, and if we say four hours, we mean it. It's a moving service built around one idea — no surprises — and it's why so much of our work comes from repeat customers and referrals.

Moving in Seattle Is Different.
Here's How We Handle It.

Parking & Permits

Truck access can make or break a moving day. We know where permits are required, when no-parking signs are worth arranging, and how to position the truck to keep your carry distance — and your hours — short.

Buildings & Elevators

Elevator reservations, certificates of insurance, loading dock windows — we handle building requirements routinely. And when an elevator breaks mid-move, our crews carry your belongings up the stairs without complaint or drama.

Stairs & Tight Access

Walk-ups, narrow staircases, steep driveways where the truck can't get close, tight corners in older homes. We've carried couches up outside staircases in the rain more times than we can count.

Northwest Weather

Rain doesn't stop a move — it changes how we protect things. Extra wrap, floor runners at both ends, mattresses bagged. On snow-and-ice days, we communicate early and honestly about timing.

Team was great! Showed up on time, were completely professional, put my mind at rest And did not complain once when they found out, they had to move stuff into an older West Seattle home on a hill with narrow steps. Will definitely use this company again.

Puget Sound Moving Seattle recently moved me from Seattle to Covington and they did a fantastic job! Tami in the office was super responsive and helpful. Isaias and Antonio were wonderful to work with and the final bill came under the Estimated amount. I will definitely be using Puget Sound Moving again and will be referring all my friends.

How much does a local move in Seattle cost?
Our all-inclusive hourly rates start at $160/hour for two movers and a truck — fuel, blankets, shrink wrap, and equipment included, with no hidden fees. A packed-and-ready one-bedroom apartment typically takes 2–4 hours; a two-bedroom usually runs 3–5 hours with a three-man crew; a full house is most of a day. Call for a free estimate and we'll give you an honest window for your specific move.
Do you charge travel time?
Washington state regulations require licensed movers to include travel time, and some companies bury it until the invoice. We explain exactly how it applies to your move before you book — no games, no surprises on move day.
Do you charge extra for stairs, elevators, or long carries?
No stair fees, no elevator fees, no long-carry fees. Those things simply affect how long the move takes, and we factor them into your estimate honestly, upfront.
How far in advance do I need to book?
We recommend 2 to 3 weeks for most local moves, and 4+ weeks for weekends in peak season (May through September). We often have same-week and even same-day availability, so call and we'll tell you what we can do.
Is furniture disassembly and reassembly included?
Yes, free on every move. Beds, desks, bookshelves, dining tables — anything that needs to come apart to fit through a door gets disassembled and fully reassembled at your new home at no extra charge.
Do you move specialty items like pianos or safes?
Yes. We have the equipment and trained crews for pianos, gun safes, pool tables, gym equipment, and large appliances. Mention them when requesting your quote and we'll build them into your hourly rate.
What if something gets damaged?
You'll hear it from our crew first — on the spot, not discovered a week later. And our 48-hour damage guarantee means if anything is damaged, report it within 48 hours and we fix or replace it. No claims runaround, no arguing.
When do I pay?
At the end of your move, once everything is in place and you've walked through with the crew. We will never hold your belongings hostage over a surprise bill.
How much should I tip movers?
Tipping is never expected but always appreciated. Customers who tip typically give 5–10% of the total, or $20–$50 per mover for shorter moves — usually in cash at the end of the job.
