Your Tacoma Moving Company
With an Office on Broadway.

Puget Sound Moving isn’t a Seattle outfit that drives down for jobs in the City of Destiny. We keep a real office at 539 Broadway, right downtown, and our crews work these streets every single day. Over 17 years and 20,000+ jobs across the South Sound, we’ve carried couches up Stadium District hills, threaded furniture through century-old North Slope staircases, and reserved more Point Ruston freight elevators than we can count. Local moving across town, apartment moving into a new building, or a full service relocation out of state: we handle it all.

We’re not a franchise, and we never use day laborers or subcontractors. Your crew is a professionally trained, background checked moving team of full-time Puget Sound Moving employees. They arrive in our uniforms and our trucks, fresh and ready, with real accountability. No mystery third guy hired off an app that morning.

Our all-inclusive hourly rate means the number we quote is the number you pay: movers, moving truck, fuel, blankets, shrink wrap, and equipment included. Free estimates are exactly that, too: free, fast, and with no obligation. ⚠ [If Tacoma jobs dispatch from the Broadway office, add: “And because we’re based here, you’re not paying travel time from a Seattle warehouse.”]

From Proctor bungalows to Dome District lofts, from a studio on 6th Ave to a full family home in the West End: if it’s moving here, we’ve moved it.

What a Typical Tacoma Move Costs

After thousands of South Sound jobs, here’s what to expect. A packed-and-ready one-bedroom, say a 6th Ave or Stadium District apartment, usually takes a two-man crew 2 to 4 hours. A two-bedroom typically runs 3 to 5 hours with three movers. A full Proctor or West End house is a day’s work for a crew of three or four men. Older homes with narrow stairs and street-only parking take a little longer; that’s this city, and we quote it honestly instead of surprising you. Your rate covers the moving truck, fuel, and equipment, and your Tacoma moving estimate is free.

Comparing Moving Companies in Tacoma?

Two things to watch. First, Washington regulations require movers to charge travel time, and if a company is really dispatching from Seattle, you’re paying for that drive. Our crews start from 539 Broadway, minutes from your door. ⚠ [verify dispatch location] Second, watch for hourly quotes that assume a slow crew. Ours are professionally trained to hustle, and if we say four hours, we mean it. Get your free estimate and compare; we win that comparison a lot.

Old Homes. Steep Hills. Tight Streets.
We Move Tacoma Anyway.

Historic Homes & Narrow Stairs

North Slope and Stadium District homes are a century old: tight staircases, low doorframes, and ornate trim you don’t want dinged. We pad the house, not just your belongings. We measure before we muscle, and we disassemble what won’t make the turn. We’ve hoisted more than one couch that “would never fit.”

Hills, Brick Streets & Parking

This city is built on hills, and truck position matters. We plan where the moving truck lands before moving day (steep driveways, brick side streets, street-only parking in the Slope) to keep your carry distance and your hours short. When the truck can’t get close, our crews carry.

Condos, Lofts & New Builds

Point Ruston waterfront condos, downtown and UWT-area lofts in converted warehouses, the new apartments along the Hilltop light rail line: these buildings want elevator reservations, loading windows, and certificates of insurance. We handle COIs routinely and work a reserved freight elevator fast.

Routes We Run Weekly

Up I-5 to Seattle, across the Narrows to Gig Harbor, and out to University Place, Lakewood, Puyallup, and Federal Way. We also move military families near JBLM, including load and unload help for PCS moves. We time I-5 and Highway 16 like locals, because we are. ⚠ [confirm JBLM]

We hired these movers for a cross town 1 bedroom move and we couldn't be happier. Communication was the best in scheduling, confirmation and moving day. Team showed up on time and were very polite, caring, professional, and quick. They did an amazing job and anytime we need a move in the Tacoma area we will use them again. Thank you!

I can't say enough good things about the crew that came and moved us from Tacoma to Portland. Three guys that were amazing, organized, cheerful and polite and just totally awesome and efficient. Antonio, Carlos, and Zabdil were all amazing. If I could give them more than five stars I would. I highly, highly recommend this company. This crew was great and got us through a very stressful time with cheer and kindness. They went above and beyond at every turn. They all deserve raises or bonuses!

We used Puget Sound Moving to move from Tacoma, Washington to Portland, Oregon. The crew was on time, efficient, careful, very professional, and courteous. They had our stuff loaded in less than 2 hours and then they unloaded our things in the same amount of time. No items or home damage on both ends. I would highly recommend this company for future moves.

What Locals Should Know.

Moving In or Out of Tacoma

Moving here is its own skill. The homes are older; North Slope and Stadium District are full of Craftsman and Victorian houses with narrow staircases, low doorways, and no driveways. The hills are steeper, and street parking on brick side streets takes planning. Meanwhile the newer buildings, from Point Ruston’s waterfront condos to the apartments rising along the Hilltop light rail line, come with elevator reservations and certificates of insurance. Our crews handle all of it weekly, and our downtown office means we’re minutes away.

We also run constant routes out of the city: up I-5 to Seattle, across the Narrows to Gig Harbor, and to University Place, Lakewood, Puyallup, and Federal Way. Military family headed to or from JBLM? We handle those regularly, including loading and unloading help for PCS moves where you’ve arranged your own truck or containers. ⚠ [confirm JBLM claim]

When you’re comparing your shortlist, ask each Tacoma moving company the same question: is the rate truly all-inclusive? Ours is. It’s a moving service built around one idea, no surprises: one number, in writing, backed by our free estimate.

Call Us Now
How much does a local move in Tacoma cost?
Our all-inclusive hourly rates start at $160/hour for two movers and a truck. Fuel, blankets, shrink wrap, and equipment are included, with no hidden fees. A packed-and-ready one-bedroom apartment typically takes 2 to 4 hours; a two-bedroom runs 3 to 5 hours with a three-man crew; a full house is most of a day. Older homes with narrow stairs or street-only parking can add time, and we factor that into your free estimate honestly, upfront.
Do you charge travel time?
Washington regulations require licensed movers to include travel time. The difference with us: we have a real office downtown at 539 Broadway, so your crew isn't billing a drive down from Seattle. We explain exactly how travel time applies to your move before you book, never on the invoice.
Can you handle old homes with tight staircases?
It's practically our specialty. North Slope and Stadium District houses were built long before sectional sofas existed. We measure, pad the doorways and banisters, disassemble what needs it, and hand-carry when that's the right call. Protecting a 100-year-old home matters as much as protecting your belongings.
Do you charge extra for stairs, hills, or long carries?
No stair fees, no long-carry fees, no hidden add-ons, even in the hilliest parts of the city. Those things simply affect how long the move takes, and we build that into your estimate before you book.
Do you help with military moves near JBLM?
Yes. We regularly work with military families in and around Joint Base Lewis-McChord: full-service moves, or loading and unloading for PCS moves where you've arranged your own truck or containers. Tell us your report date and we'll work around it.
How far in advance should I book Tacoma movers?
2 to 3 weeks for most local jobs, and 4+ weeks for summer weekends (May through September). That said, we often have same-week and even same-day availability, so call our downtown office and we'll tell you what we can do.
Is furniture disassembly and reassembly included?
Yes, free on every move. Bed frames, dining tables, desks: anything that has to come apart to clear a doorway gets disassembled and fully reassembled at your new home at no extra charge.
What if something gets damaged?
You'll hear it from our crew first, on the spot, not discovered a week later. Our 48-hour damage guarantee means if anything is damaged, report it within 48 hours and we fix or replace it. No claims runaround.
When do I pay?
At the end of your move, once everything's in place and you've done a walkthrough with the crew. We will never hold your belongings hostage over a surprise bill.
Do you move between Tacoma and Seattle?
Every week, in both directions. Seattle, Gig Harbor, Puyallup, Federal Way, and everywhere between: same crews, same all-inclusive rates, no long-distance surcharge inside the Puget Sound region.
